WASN'T IT JUST YESTERDAY..?

Remember back when we were young,
Back to the past...in "71"?
When stress didn't mean a state of mind,
And School work was our daily grind.
When our parents seemed stupid and we were so bright,
We'd beg for the car then go cruising all night.
They never knew, or so we thought,
"Bout the parties we went to,'cause we never got caught.
We turned up our stereos (THEY called it "racket"),
And the guys would all strut in their varsity jackets.
We wore tie dye shirts, beads, and bell bottom pants,
Went to high school functions, like the homecoming dance.
We'd watch football games from high in the bleachers,
Or from Kettering's "hill" and avoid all the teachers.
Remember the mini shirts? Boy, were they hot!
And the newest high school was Waterford Mott.
The Corsairs thought they were cool in their "power blue",
But Township and Kettering knew that wasn't true.
The Captains would boast in their green and white,
But the Skipper's blue and gold put up a good fight.
Ah, those are the days we think about,
When school spirit was strong, without a doubt.
Now, it's '96, and here we are still,
Our kids call us "old" and "over the hill".
According to them we seem awfully dense,
Our logic and advice just doesn't make sense.
We're tuned into stress, it's the name of the game,
And the kids' music now makes Jimi Hendrix sound tame!
It seems all this time we must've been nappi',
We've turned into our parents!! Oh, when did THIS HAPPEN!!
Now the Waterford schools, Kettering and Mott,
Are still going strong, but Township is not.
We have memories of our high school years,
The smiles, the laughter, the work and the tears.
We can look back now and say it was fun,
THOSE "WONDER YEARS", BACK IN '71.
